West Wycombe is believed to have been continuously occupied since the Bronze Age. Sir Samuel and Francis Dashwood, both successful London merchants, bought West Wycombe Park in 1698.
The landscaping of the park we see today was first set out in the 18th century by Sir Francis Dashwood. The park contains over a dozen follies and a lake said to be in the shape of a swan.
The Dashwood mausoleum and Church of St Lawrence are visible on the hill behind.
